Ryan was born August 12, 1998, a bright-eyed, 8 lb. 12 oz., healthy baby boy.
At 7 months, Ryan's chubby cheeks and happy disposition gave his family a lot of hope for a bright future after his first bone marrow transplant.
Ten months old, and back in the hospital after surgery for removal of part of a lung. . .but still happy and smiling ~ this is Grandma Lyn's favorite photo of Ryan.
Ryan dressed as Elmo, Halloween 1999. He couldn't go out, for his own protection, but had lots of fun watching the trick-or-treaters from his front window.

Ryan loved balls of all kinds and sizes. One of his first words was "BA-KA-BALL!" His daddy put a small net up on the wall at home, and when he was in the hospital, it went with him and was attached to his bed. Here he is at 16 months old and able to be home for a while.
At 18 months, what a cutie!

Back in the hospital again, but after more than two years, Ryan is a real trooper and makes the most of his time here!

Ryan loved books, and spent lots of time looking at his favorites, or on Grandma Lyn's lap, as they read together. This photo was taken shortly before Ryan began chemo, prior to a stem cell transplant.
